GMAT Percentiles 2026: What The Latest Update Actually Means For You
Every August, GMAC quietly updates the percentile table behind every GMAT score. Most students never see this happen. Instead, they just notice, months later, that their score report says something slightly different than it used to.
This year’s update landed right on schedule. So we went through the official numbers and pulled out the parts that actually matter for someone planning their GMAT prep today. In short, here is everything you need to know, in plain language.
Your Total Score, In Percentile Terms
Here is the current, official GMAT Focus Edition Total Score table. Find your score on the left and read your percentile on the right.

This is a normal yearly refresh, not a re scoring. Every score between 555 and 735 moved down by exactly one percentile point this year. Every score between 255 and 485 moved up by exactly one point. In fact, nothing moved by more than that. The top of the scale, from 745 all the way to 805, did not move at all.
In plain words, a few more students landed in the middle of the curve this year, and a few more landed near the bottom. Your actual score, and what schools expect from it, has not changed one bit.
Quant, Verbal, And Data Insights, Side By Side
Your Total Score is built from three section scores, each running from 60 to 90. Here is how every point in that range translates to a percentile, for all three sections at once.

Mean scaled scores in the current release: Quant 77.92, Verbal 79.43, Data Insights 75.14. Data Insights is the lowest scoring section of the three.
The one row worth staring at
Look at the row for a scaled score of 82. In Data Insights, that same 82 is the 93rd percentile. Quant puts it at the 75th. Verbal puts it lower still, at only the 73rd. So the exact same raw performance is worth far more in Data Insights, simply because Data Insights has the lowest average score of the three sections. If you are strong in Quant but your Data Insights is lagging, that is usually the faster place to add percentile points.
Verbal tells a different story. Moving from a scaled 80 to an 81 takes you from the 54th percentile to the 64th, a ten point jump for one single point of score. In fact, no other single point anywhere on the exam is worth that much. If your Verbal sits in the high 70s or low 80s, a small, focused improvement there goes a long way.
What Score Do You Actually Need?
Instead of memorising the whole chart, it helps to know the exact section score needed for the percentile bands schools actually care about.

Notice how close together the Verbal and Data Insights numbers are, while Quant needs a noticeably higher raw score for the same percentile. That gap is exactly why students with a strong Quant background sometimes feel stuck on Total Score. As a result, their Quant percentile gains cost more scaled points than the same effort would in Verbal or Data Insights.
How This Actually Changes Your Prep Plan
Knowing where percentile points are cheap only helps if your course actually teaches those sections in enough depth to use it. Most GMAT courses treat Data Insights as an afterthought, three or four sessions bolted onto the end of Quant. That is a problem, because Data Insights is exactly where the percentile numbers say you should be picking up easy points.
